Men’s Style Tips: How to wear lavender purple socks
Warmer weather encourages us to reach for softer items in our wardrobe – be it colour, fabric or pattern. Lavender is a lighter take on a classic purple that evokes memories of sunny days, crisp white linens and seaside strolls.
We are always keen to introduce a new shade into our sock drawer, so we caught up with celebrity stylist Michael Fisher, who shared his advice on how to style Lavender socks.
What do you think makes lavender a classic choice for the sunshine months?
Lavender has always signified summer to me as it’s the colour of the wisteria in bloom. This plant fills the air with such a wonderful scent. Lavender is relaxing, calming, and romantic. Summer is the perfect time to wear this soft pastel. It’s the ideal complement to sun-kissed skin and works well with a summer wardrobe of natural fabrics.
It’s also worth noting that all shades of purple symbolise unity – the combination of red and blue represents the coming together of opposing philosophies. So, with that in mind, I think this colour is particularly relevant in these times and means something deeper for me.
How would you style lavender socks for a nice sunny look?
Lavender pairs nicely with a tan summer suit or a subtle seersucker jacket. As it’s fresh looking with a touch of the romantic, it’s a perfect option for a summer wedding or a smart night out. A pair of lavender socks looks fresh with a pair of sliders, peeking out from khakis or worn with navy shorts.
Can you double down on pastels without looking like an easter egg?
You can choose a warm pastel – such as yellow or green – in a shirt, wear neutral trousers in khaki or navy and then add your lavender sock.
What other colours look great with Lavender?
Dark greens and navy always look great, and it also works well with an array of pale stone chinos, khakis and tan trousers – all of which should be summer wardrobe staples.
Are there any other style trends we can look forward to this season that we can incorporate a nice soft lavender into?
It’s a lot of colour! Uneven dyeing-garment, pigment, tie-dying, sun-bleached or dip-dyed styles offer unlimited summer options to explore.
Socks aside, how could someone work this shade into their look in other ways this season?
As lavender already looks sun-bleached and sandblasted, it is a great colour for swimsuits. Polos are a smart alternative to the t-shirt when you need to dress up. And on those cooler nights, a hoodie or jogging bottoms in lavender will look fresh and trendy.
