Men's Style Tips: A guide to wedding season essentials (pt. 2)
In the second part of our style tips for dapper wedding guest, James Bond’s stylist, Gareth Scourfield follows on from his dress code decode and shares some thoughts on the small but not insignificant details to take your outfit to the next level.
1. Shirts – keep it simple
For shirts, I tend to stick to white or classic and subtle. Avoid bold patterns and definitely stay clear of black or navy. If you fancy going for a colour, try very pale ice blue, a fine pale blue and white stripe, or light pink as they evoke a nice summer feel. Make sure they are always long sleeved and that the sleeves are the right length – the cuff shouldn’t be grazing your knuckles, or be halfway up your arm.
(See style tip #1 on our blog for more about shirt and sleeve length)
2. The Tie
Always wear a tie, even if you don’t usually or the invite suggests a more relaxed vibe. It makes your look feel polished and you can always dispense of it once the party gets started! (NB: That doesn’t mean wearing it like a John McEnroe head band …)
For something a bit different, try a coloured knitted silk tie. A geometric pattern or small floral print can also give a nod to the summer seasonal trends. Add a pocket square that compliments your sock shade.
3. Take Sunglasses
Sunglasses are an excellent style addition but also – hopefully – a summer wedding essential. Keep them classic – something like the timeless ‘wayfarer’ shape – but cool. These FINLAY Hamilton frames are a winner. Bonus: they’ll also help mask those ‘morning after’ eyes …
4. Making a weekend of it
Carry your suit appropriately in a proper suit bag – never fold it or crush it in with your PJs. For the rest of your essentials, invest in a good quality weekend bag.
