Joe Ottaway is a professional menswear stylist and image consultant. He’s best known for his modern sartorial style, using simple yet classic methods. Joe styles some of the world’s most famously dapper gentlemen.
This week Joe offers some top tips on choosing the right style, brand and price point when it comes to buying shoes.
1.Which Style?
The Brogue
Joe says:
Every gentleman should own a pair of British Brogues.
Originally designed for country wear, brogues have retained a great touch of informality when worn in town.
The Monk-Strap
Joe says:
Possibly my favourite style at present and a great alternative to brogues.
The double monk strap in particular offers real style and looks great in oxblood leather.
2. Colours
Joe says:
I’m a big fan of keeping things simple when it comes to shoe colours.
Black and browns are the most versatile with different trousers or denim. Let your shoes work for any outfit.
3.How Much To Spend?
Joe says:
It all depends on your budget, but I always recommend investing in good shoes.
£400-500 will get you well made British shoes. Look after them and they will last for a long time.
