Men’s Style Tips: Guide to Sunglasses, with Finlay & Co.

It’s that time of year when you dust off your old shades and realise you are in need of an upgrade.

Which style is right for you?

Our good friends at British eyewear brand Finlay & Co. share their top tips on sunglasses style for 2016.

1.Frames to suit your face-shape

Designer Lily says:

In general, a frame that is the opposite of your face shape, will compliment you the best.

If unsure, look closely in the mirror – and there is no right or wrong face-shape here gents!

Square

You’ve got a strong jaw, the same width as your forehead.

Go for styles that have some roundedness to them to soften your face shape.

Oval

You’ve got a narrower forehead and chin.

Good news, you can go for pretty much any shape, but be sure to choose frames that keep balanced proportions.

Heart/Diamond

Your forehead is wider than your chin/jaw.

More rectangular or aviator will bring a nice balance to compliment your natural shape.

Round

The widest part of your face is your cheeks.

Choose styles which are rectangular to give a more angular look.

2.Find your style

Lily says:

Modern eyewear design has a lot of variety and options.

Here are a few ideas to start with, depending on your personal taste and style objectives.

Modern/ Subtle

The wayfarer design is an all-time classic rectangular, but subtle and sleek shape.

Great for a smart or suit style.

‘Stand-out’ Style

If your goal is to stand out from the crowd and your friends would describe you as a bit eccentric, then how about some more complex frames.

Some alternative circular lenses, perhaps sitting within a lightweight wood frame, offer something a bit different.

Looking Fresh

This year we’re seeing further development of coloured and mirror lenses.

No longer confined to the ski-slopes, these modern lenses are a great look for this summer.

Final Tips:

1.Always make sure any lenses you wear have full UVA/B protection.

2.Buy from brands that offer free returns. You can easily swap if unsure after a walk round the block.
