Men’s Style Tips: How to wear pink socks
There is power in wearing pink. While society’s arbitrary gender rules would put pink in the female camp (despite its 18th century place as a masculine colour), it is a colour that has confidently found a place in men’s fashion that is beyond the binary. Ever since Pantone declared the colour of the year to be ‘Millennial Pink’ in 2016 (a sort of dusky rose shade), red carpets have been awash with stylish pink suits and pink shirts are no longer an office talking point.
For those of us not intending to step out in pink tailoring anytime soon, pink socks are a simple, stylish way to incorporate this colour into daily dressing. Read on for our edit and style tips for perfecting pink.
Pick pink socks for a playful pop
Despite its connotations as a traditionally feminine colour, pink is actually one of the truly timeless shades in menswear. Confident but classy, there is a shade of pink out there that will look darn good with most staples. From grey tailoring to cream chinos to all washes of denim, it can be the pop you need. For summer days in shorts, pick Pink Friday trainer socks – they go well with shorts in navy or stone, but also even pastels (including pink).
Experiment with different shades
Like all colours, pink has various shades, so experiment to find the one you like best. You can go bold and bright with our Simply Sartorial in Pink Friday sock, or more muted with the pastel Pink Diamond from Ilaria Urbinati’s Spotlight Collection.
Your everyday hero hue
Pink socks work really well when you keep it classic and simple. And that includes both dressed up and dressed down. Pink socks look very good (and we mean very good) with black tie. Crisp white shirt, black tux, pink socks: perfection. Day-to-day they are a friend to chinos – playful yet polished. Pink lifts neutrals like beige and stones, cream and soft greys. Go for a block pink sock like Simply Sartorial Pink Friday or something softer like Bond St. Herringbone in Pink.
Try dressing tonally
Tonal dressing is a style trend where you wear different items of clothing that fall within the same colour palette or ‘family’. If you are super keen, obviously you can do a Timothée Chalamet and pull out the pink suit with pink socks. For those who feel like dabbling, try picking a soft pink polo, t-shirt or jumper, pairing with some navy slacks (we love a relaxed linen number with drawstring for summer vibes) and pink socks (we would go for block Pink Friday Simply Sartorials or Simply Marl in Red). Add white trainers (like some from our friends at Loci) and cool shades (gotta be Finlay & Co) and you’re prepped in pink.
Discover something new
Pink is one of those menswear trends that never really fades. Whether it is full on fuchsias or more dusky roses, pink is always a stylish statement and pink socks are the ideal way to inject this shade into your look. So, if you want to shake up your sock drawer, a palette of pink will do you proud.
