Men's Style Tips: Styling socks with jeans
A pair of denim jeans is an essential wardrobe staple for any modern man. Once known as the “devil’s cloth”, this is arguably the most universal and versatile item you own. We have pulled together some great style ideas to make the most of your navy denim. Everything from a sharp evening out (date night?) to purely weekend casual (Sunday lunch?).
The double casual
Double denim – the Canadian tuxedo – is actually a really strong weekend look, but make sure the denims are different shades. A nice, light denim jacket looks great. If you aren’t sure about doubling down, try a laid back cotton overshirt/shacket (yes that is a word) in navy with dark denim jeans. For a true blue approach that still looks smooth, blue socks in another shade of this colour. Spot of Style in Emerald or Simply Sartorial in Skye Blue for example.
Smarten up your denims
To smarten up in jeans, try a dark navy pair of jeans in a slimmer fit. Add a shirt, with a textured blazer and some smart leather trainers or shoes. As for the sock choice, try a bit of contrast with a brighter, bolder statement – purple socks look regal and confident. For a more elegantly traditional approach that still has a stylish edge, our Spot of Style collection are a classic. Timeless shades with a liberal and tasteful sprinkling of polka dots.
Simple and sophisticated
The great thing about denim is that it can be effortless and sophisticatedly stylish at the same time. The trick is well-fitted jeans in a darker indigo and nice layering on the top half. A classic Oxford shirt with a nice jacket. Or even a t-shirt with simple jumper. For socks, bold, block colours add the ideal dash of colour and for that it always has to be Simply Sartorial Scottish Lisle Cotton socks. Chocolate suede penny loafers to round it all off for the perfect smart/casual.
