Men's Style Tips: The Seasonal Edit for Autumn/Winter with Ilaria Urbinati

Celebrity stylist Ilaria Urbinati is known for being the style force behind some of Hollywood's leading men. Ryan Reynolds, The Rock, Chris Evans, Barry Keoghan, Tyler James, Rami Malek … we could go on. And anyone who follows her will also know that she is a huge fan of autumn/winter season and all it offers for men's styling inspiration. There was no one more suited to curating an exclusive seasonal selection of socks for London Sock Company. Bringing together vintage vibes, feel-good stripes and rich shades, The Seasonal Edit is an effortless way to step into the season’s vivid colour palette.

We caught up with Ilaria to talk all things autumn/winter style, socks and what makes this the best season.

You are famously a huge fan of the A/W season. Can you tell us why it's a favourite?

Everything about this season is warm and beautiful, the weather is perfect, and I love the clothes this time of year. Sweaters and jackets. I also love the holidays – I’m a huge holiday nerd. Everything just feels more inspiring to me this time of year. I always joke that I really come to life from September to December.

What do you think autumn/winter is all about from a men’s style perspective?

For styling, I finally get to dip into all my favourite fabrics; corduroy, tweeds, houndstooth, cashmere. And then there’s the colours. All my favourite colours are autumn colours – burnt orange, maroon, hunter green and dark teal. Also, as a men's stylist, you can’t beat a good jacket at this time of year. Add one in suede, a quilted or wax fabric (for that rainy weather), or even a great trench coat, and you have a real polished menswear look.

Can you describe The Seasonal Edit sock collection?

This collection really focuses on the family of colours that work so well for the types of looks I would style for the fall season. Which is mainly warm, rich colours. For me, as a men’s stylist, colour combinations are everything. I always take my time picking out the right sock colours for each outfit for every appearance I dress clients for. Sometimes I’ll go really matchy-matchy for a tonal look, and sometimes I like a contrast colour that is still the same colour family.

Why is this box set a simple way to add some seasonal flair to a man’s wardrobe?

I really believe that a pop of the right colour sock makes every outfit that much better and that much more fun or interesting. This box set is such an easy way to add this element to your everyday looks in the colder months.

What do you think makes London Sock Company’s socks special and why are they your favourite choice when styling your clients?

I honestly just love them so much. The quality cannot be surpassed and I love how the patterns and colours are never that obvious. It’s never just a stripe. Or some corny pattern. It’s chic but fun. And I am a big fan of solid non-pattern socks in gorgeous colours and no one does that better than the London Sock Company.

What other simple pieces can men incorporate into their daily wardrobe to really embrace A/W style?

Right now, I’m loving any barn or work jacket with a contrast corduroy or leather collar. Just throw it over any pleated slouchy trouser or a little bit wide leg trouser and it’s such an easy and comfortable daily fall outfit.

If you were to create the ultimate A/W 24 style mood board, what and who are we adding?

All Pierce & Ward interiors (I love all the browns and tumeric shades they use), Dead Poets Society, the art of Fairfield Porter, ‘90s Ethan Hawke, ‘90s J.Crew catalogues, LSC socks, anything from Aime Leon Dore. Also Margaret Howell because it always looks like her styling is out of a Dickens novel. Basically, the ultimate mood board is New England fall prep meets rainy Dickensian mixed with that very singular ALD aesthetic.
