Distinguished gentlemen and women ride to fight cancer and suicide
Prostate cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in men. Suicide is the biggest killer of men aged 20-39, and ¾ of all suicides are male. Let’s do something about it.
Just a few weeks ago, over 56,000 gentle men and women in over 500 cities worldwide got on their classic and vintage motorcycles in their finest glad rags to ride together in style. Why did these dapper individuals take over the roads? The yearly event, now in association with The Movember Foundation, sees riders raising money and awareness for two of the biggest killers of men today: prostate cancer and mental health issues.
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is in its fifth year now, and is getting bigger and bigger. Join LSC and support this noble cause. If you still have not donated, you’re not too late but this is your last week! Donations are being accepted up until October 31st.
Your fundraising efforts and donations will help The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride reach its goal of $5 Million. That total will go towards prostate cancer research and mental health programmes across the world in order to cure the disease, improve mental health support and reduce suicide.
Since the inaugural ride was set up by Sydney’s Mark Hawwa, the DGR has grown exponentially. It all started out with Hawwa wanting to improve the image of bikers so he got a few thousand of them together to ride in a peaceful and positive event. All the riders had to do was turn up looking as debonair as possible in their best suits to ride their classic bikes together.
When it was a huge success, he saw it needed to be put to charitable use. The following year the number of riders quadrupled, and they’ve doubled again each year since. Needless to say, this year’s ride was the biggest and best yet.
